Remember a constant doesn't have to be a person - it can be a place or a thing as well - anything that grounds the person's psyche from temporal displacement. Since Charlotte is the one who is in great peril if she can't find a constant. Since she hinted that she was born on the island it makes sense to think that we have met her mother on the island and she needs to find her in the future. Perhaps she will arrive with Ben.
