Apparently, the Lost S4 finale was number one in the ratings…

From CNN:

It was an uncommonly strong performance for the ABC mystery serial, which is ranked 19th for the season in viewers.

On the other hand, “Lost” had puny opposition as most scripted series moved into postseason rerun mode and viewing overall dropped significantly from the week before. “Lost” had 12.3 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Where to begin… I’ll start off by stating that the season 4 finale contained everything that the plot directed throughout the season. The Oceanic Six leave the island. The bomb goes off in the ship. Locke and Ben move the island. We find out who’s in the coffin. Kate bitch slaps Jack (who didn’t see THAT coming?).

If Jin survived it would be a cop-out, but I hope that he’ll come back many times as a vision/ghost thingie. If he did survive, after three years, he should be speaking some savvy english by now. Unlike Michael, who according to interviews, is quite pissed that he blew up – and probably won’t be returning.

Surprises
Walt visiting Hurley, Hurley playing chess with Mr. Eko, Ben and the frozen donkey wheel (and how did that move the island??). The rescue by Penny – I dug that. Claire appearing was part of Kate’s dream, so I’m not putting anything into that, other than this: She’s a bad mother for abandoning Aaron, so she better have a good reason for hanging out with ghost daddy.

Also, Ben tells Jack that everybody has to go – does that mean Walt has to go back? It’s been established that Walt is “Special”. Now that Walt has done his explained “growth spurt”, he can now return to be a cast regular.

I’ll have to watch it a few more times, but I’m sad that it’ll be quite a few months before next season. I’m thinking about getting the video game soon, just so I can putz around on the island.

Predictions

• What if Locke is faking death? It’s been asserted that the island won’t let anyone die unless it allows it. Medusa spider anyone?
• If Locke is truly dead, then there must be some sort of transformation thing for the dead bodies that makes them into the smoke monsters or guardians spirits for the island – like Christian Shephard and Yemi (both the bodies went missing).
• Who else thinks that Sawyer and Juliet are going to hook up? Wouldn’t that just piss Jack off?

Questions

• How does pushing a wheel suck an island into a wormhole?
• Who are the others, not the people that have been “recruited” – but the actual natives? Like Richard?
• Faraday was on the small boat when the island went *poof*. Obviously he was sucked in with it – but will he return to the island on the right bearing?

It looks like something for a thing in San Diego during the Comic Con. I put in my email even though I won’t be there in late July.

Well, that’s it for now – but I’m going to really watch this season over again (gots nothing better to do) and I’m sure I’ll come up with new stuff. Peace out.

The three hour finale starts tonight, actually two hours with last week’s episode played again with some more footage added. I really don’t know what’s going to happen. I’ve been extra careful with spoilers. I have absolutely no predictions other than I’m going to go nuts waiting for next season.

Hopefully they’ll kill Michael off. I think Jin will do something heroic on the boat, dying in the process. I have no idea what plans are for Desmond – Penny still needs to find him and he’s still Faraday’s constant.

I’m curious how they’re going to move the island. Obviously they’ll do this as the Oceanic 6 leave, making the 6 think the island vanished. I’m inclined to think that the island will end up in Antarctica simply to explain why Ben is wearing a parka. Or maybe he transports Keamy and his men there, stranding them to a frozen death, and transport to Tunisia.

This is a weird season and hopefully some things will be explained. The ship will blow up. Frank will hopefully not die – I dig him and want him to be a part of the cast. That’s about it. Here’s to the possible best 2 hours in television history.

Richard is Like Dick Clark
The dude is seriously older than dirt. That was a nice surprise of the episode right off the bat. Then we have to talk about Locke being selected from birth as “Island Special” – whether or not Ben was aware of this, at least we know that Richard has known. Also – we’re getting an awful lot of “no smoking” references when an island personality shows up. This happened right before Richard appeared the first time. Locke’s grandmother was told she wasn’t allowed to smoke. This also occurred in the previous episode when Jack was putzing around with the smoke detector and his dead father appears. I don’t know if this eludes to Richard and Christian being spirits/jinns or what have you or not.

Horace Doesn’t Need Home Depot
It turns out that Horace Godspeed built the cabin for him and his hot wife (Samantha Mathis). Horace was the one who helped Ben’s father when his wife gave birth to Ben in the woods – and brought them to the island, via the Dharma Initiative. I was slightly disappointed with this revelation, as I was hoping that the cabin was far older than 12-20 years.

Keamy is a Bastard
I think that Keamy has a nuclear trigger strapped to his arm that will blow the island to bits if his heart stops. He’s a right bastard anyway for killing Alex and now the doctor and the captain. I also think the boat is going to blow up in the finale, killing Michael, maybe Desmond – and the Oceanic 6 will be found by life raft. Of course, Desmond might be in the coffin – a result of a feud between Ben and Widmore, and Desmond saving Penny’s life by taking a bullet (or something).

Claire is Hanging With Ghost Dad
Ok, so I’m thinking Claire is dead. She seems awfully content to sit in a dark cabin with her dead daddy and without her baby. I think she blew up in Othersville. And I’m kinda pissed that she might know more than Locke at this point, which, if she is alive, makes her way more powerful than him.

Random Thoughts
So Charlotte knows Korean – does she have ties to Paik? She couldn’t be there for Sun. And is Faraday evil? And why is Jack heading towards Keamy’s party? Is Matthew (the orderly that tells Locke to take a walkabout) part of the island or is he working for Widmore? The last time we saw him he was hiring Naomi for something sinister – and before that he was asking Hurley if the others were alive. Being part of the island, wouldn’t he know this? Is he like Richard or maybe the same but on the other team? Tonight’s episode should be good.

I don’t know what to think of last week’s Lost. Jack collapses. The flash forward has him shagging Kate and reading to Aaron. But his refusal to let things go has him accusing Kate of cheating on him (or something). What an ass. I maintain my position that he’s not very smart for a doctor. Christian Shepard makes several appearances. Claire disappears. And Sawyer is left holding the baby. I guess the only shocking revealation in this episode is that the bodies of Danielle and Karl are discovered, putting to rest any rumors that Danielle survived. This closes her story arc and I guess if there is a flashback for her, it will be told in somebody else’s – most likely Ben’s.
This week’s episode is about Locke, Hurley, and Ben’s trip to the cabin where we might get an early island flashback and maybe a clue about the smoke monster and Jacob. Sound good?

Here’s a closer look at the door Ben slips into. I’ve brightened it in Photoshop so you can make out the glyphs, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense. From what I gather, it looks like an offer of a big fish is needed, a pot, and a protest picket sign, and possibly a Big Mac. You can make out a flame/hand/monster thing that looks like it is about to grab an cowering victim. So what’s with the big fish?

Lost is back with a vengeance. Last night was a pretty packed episode. I really didn’t think that Alex was going to get the bullet. It was also a shock that Ben appeared to control Smokey. But I have some gripes about a few things, like Jack getting appendicitis without knowing… Really? He’s a freakin’ doctor and he doesn’t have a clue? Typical. I guess it’s not Lost without Jack collapsing from an ailment only due to his stubbornness (see season one, where he collapses from exhaustion, or nearly kills himself chasing his father, or season 3 where he collapses from being doped up from pain killers).
Some nice touches: Ben appearing in the Sahara in a parka – wearing Dr. Halliwax’s parka. The Risk game, where Hurley exclaims that “Australia is the key to the game”. The hieroglyphic ladened rock hatch that Ben escapes into to supposedly control smokey. Ben bringing up the boat “Elizabeth”, obviously lying – but it was a nice touch.

I really don’t have any theories now, I’m just waiting for some more episodes. But it is getting closer to the end, and it seems to be picking up pace. I’m getting the feeling that Juliet will be killed soon. Next week – Jack collapses from an ailment.

I think it is what the true others are. I believe the true others (natives not people that came to the island) are a race of Atlantians who are able to separate their souls/consciousness from their bodies (smoke monsters), move through time and space – their species are dying off and looked to Ben to protect them from foreigners while helping them re-establish their population and control over the island. Once you arrive on the island, your soul/consciousness slowly evolves to the island’s power, especially if you’re chosen or marked. Once you begin to change, you cannot leave the island for extended periods of time. True Atlantians have evolved with the island to the point that they exist without a body and can re-insert their souls into unborn children – in order for immortality, but human invaders have screwed up the island preventing their re population … or they’re aliens with four toes…

Juliet – The Home-wrecker
We knew from last season that Juliet was playing “Hop on Goodwin” – now we know that he was married to a woman named Harper. We also now know that Ben really likes Juliet – as in restraining-order likes. Apparently Juliet looks like Ben’s ex/dead wife/girlfriend. This all plays in some sort of demented love triangle through Juliet’s flashbacks on the island. It was an okay episode, but it just made Juliet appear all too eager to hop into the sack with anyone that gives her the “blue steel” look and has a PhD.

Of course, Juliet in a bikini – yaaaooowwww baby.

Then there’s the question of whether or not Harper is dead. I think she killed herself when she found out about Goodwin being staked. And Juliet knew this in the jungle. I think the real question is who is the island working for? Is the spirits working for Ben or the island? Why does the island want everybody dead – including the Others who went to the temple?

It’s clear that Ben solves his problems by genocide. Heil to the king. And the new station, the Tempest, is an obvious nod to Shakespeare’s play and of course, Ben is Caliban. And what purpose did DHARMA have in mind for a station that can produce a deadly nerve gas? I say get on with the Orchid station.

Preggers
The episode also explained the pregnancy thing better. The island’s healing abilities are turning the mother’s body against the fetus. Interesting.

Daddy Widmore
Big shocker here – the question’s going to be if that guy in blindfold was anybody significant. Locke was being a douche like he has been all season. This is season 2 Locke all over again – pushing a button. Exciting stuff. /sarcasm

Michael Row Your Boat
Michael is on the boat. He’s the mole. The question is, why? Do the Others track him down and blackmail him somehow? Did the Others take Walt – again?

The List
Here’s a theory, I think Ben is the one who came up with the list. When he came across the Others – they were dying out and disorganized – savages. He came along and proposed “society building” partially taking orders from Jacob but mainly positioning himself as king of a new country. A “Good Person” is someone that exists in the Others’ society as a functioning member. A “Bad Person” is someone that doesn’t fit, thereby, in the case of DHARMA, marked for extermination. Juliet being marked is still bugging me though.
