Dead Shaun of the Dead
Monday, August 11th, 2008I finally found a nearby art supply store! It’s in the same strip mall that my grocery store is at. I always thought it was a framing store. It was like walking in a slice of heaven. I bought a compact drawing board and more white charcoal pencils. I’m not digging on the paper I bought from Dick Blick. It’s too rough for my tastes. I’m going to stick with the kraft paper more; it’s smoother and I can cut it to any size I fancy.
Here’s a quick sketch of Shaun from Shaun of the Dead. It’s a little too rough, but I did it while watching the movie. I bought Spaced more than a week ago and finally finished both seasons, so I’ll be posting a review of that later.

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008Rough Sketch
Thursday, July 24th, 2008I did a sketch in a cheap sketchbook using a #2 pencil – the paper was rough. I took it into photoshop and added a paper texture to the background and added white. Interesting technique. I need to get some colored paper and some white china pencils and try this out, analog-style…
*UPDATE*
This is another sketch I did – on the same paper, with the same technique – except I used some color.

Thursday, May 15th, 2008Drawing Real People
Thursday, May 15th, 2008I’ve been on a drawing kick lately, working with photos of people. I’ve really trying to learn proper proportions as well as hone my style and pick up new techniques. I’ve bought two books by Matt Busch, You Can Draw Star Wars, and Pucker: Art of Matt Busch – both display his techniques from working from photos. I really admire his pencil work though, and I’ll need to get to that point before I feel comfortable inking/painting.
