Questions and Answers

Please tell me this isn’t your full-time job…

It isn’t. This is purely a weekend/weeknight thing I do. If the money-fairy blesses me with enough green to sustain my lifestyle and NOT have a day job, then I’d go for it. Right now, however, everything you see here is out of my heart and out of my pocket.

Where are your forums?

I probably won’t be using a forum/message board on this site. My experience tells me that forums rarely stick to the topic at hand and I have neither the time or energy to monitor for trolls, flammers, spammers, and haters. If you really want a place to discuss AI Comics, feel free to start your own fan forum. Send me the link if it takes off. If you want to say something to me, feel free to email me.

Will you start having banner ads on your site?

Generally I hate banner ads (more than you can imagine). If money ever got tight (or this site gets more hits than my current bandwidth can handle) I would first try to advertise companies/products/people that I like/use and vouch for. If that doesn’t do it, I would try to do selective advertising. No pop-ups, “Punch the monkey” flash ads, or – God forbid – those fake dating sites that promises you unlimited cleavage.

Are your comics child-friendly?

Short answer, no. If I had give my comics a content ratings, I would say they fall into the PG-13 area. I will freely use bad language where I deem appropriate. There will be violence, but the gore will be kept to a minimum. No genitalia or bare boobs or sex. None of my current comics require sexual imagery to tell the stories. Sorry. Eventually I will open an “Adult” comics section that will be heavily protected from today’s adolescents, but not at the moment. If you have children, you and you alone are responsible for what goes into their heads. Read my comics and decide if your children should read them.

What equipment/materials/software do you use?

My general equipment is as followed:

  • My G4 Powerbook
  • Adobe Photoshop CS
  • Macromedia Flash 2004
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Alias Sketchbook Pro
  • 9×12 Sketch Pad
  • Col-Erase Pencils

Can you tell me how you make the comics?

Not at this moment. In the future I will probably do a few tutorials. Please google this, or check out other webcomic sites. Hawk from Applegeeks.com has some great stuff on in his forums. That’s where I learned several techniques.

Can I use your characters?

No. Especially if you plan on making money off it. All my work is protected by copyrights. Many of my characters have already been previously published in one form or another and many have been around for over 15 years. I don’t mind fan art or doodles, but if you are going to bank off my ideas, you’re going to have to include me on the deal. I’m probably not interested in selling off my intellectual property at the moment – if you’re a big player in the entertainment industry, however, drop me an email…we’ll do lunch.

Why does your site look like crap?

Currently, I’ve been redesigning it with a CMS (Content Management System) called WordPress. The comic portion uses a system called ComiKaze. The Gallery portion uses Coppermine. I’m trying to integrate all these system to a seamless looking site. Until then, expect some things to look out of place. If you spot something seriously wrong, feel free to drop me a line.

How often will you be updating the comics?

At first, I will go about it without a schedule – to see how fast I can get through several comics at once. Some titles will probably be weekly – others will be monthly. On the monthly titles however, I intend on publishing several pages at a time.

Can you draw me something?

Yes, but only if you pay me. I am willing to do commissions, price is depended on the complexity of the item and time it takes me to complete it. Please be aware that I am not always available for commissions and my prices are rather high.

Can I send you my idea for the next great thing?

No. AI Comics is not accepting any solicited material. Period. Due the legal reasons, anything that is sent to me with that intention will be discarded immediately.
